Northwest Indiana Beekeepers Association April 2026 Meeting Minutes
DATE: April 2, 2026
TIME: 6:10 P.M.
MEETING CALLED TO ORDER BY: President, Rick Raynor
MINUTES: Minutes of the March meeting were presented by Gina Matury. Nick Vallee moved to approve the minutes. Jason Haney seconded the motion and it was passed unanimously.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Treasurer, David Poremba gave a report stating current club balance is $12,239.18. The U.S. Post Office box annual fee was paid and $500 was sent to the fair committee to reserve our space for the 2026 Lake County Fair.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Education: Bobby Csernak: Will procure new hive boxes for the educational frame photos discussed at the last meeting.
Fair: Rick Rayner: Discussed the need for volunteers to work the sales booth, the information booth and the candle making booth. Rick stressed the need to provide accurate, science-based information at the information booth.
Membership: Sue Gloza: Sue proposed an idea that she plans to contact any local people with Honey for Sale signs to inform them of the club, its mission and when/where we meet. She stated that she would devise a flyer to pass out to these contacts. Gina asked that Sue send her a copy of the flyer before distributing.
Equipment and Materials Management: Gina Matury/Nick Valle: David Poremba is still working on getting a new storage location set up. When he does, we will move all equipment and materials there, including the extractor that Ed Rice would like to have moved there.
Website: David Poremba: David discussed updates to the newsletter. Gina also advised that she is now able to add the meeting minutes and agenda to the website and plans to update these each month.
PRESENTATION
David Hocutt, President, The Beekeepers of Indiana:
- David spoke about the upcoming Kentucky (Summer 2026) and Indiana (Summer 2027) Eastern Apicultural Society (EAS) conferences and the need for local clubs to get volunteers ready to assist in the 2027 conference in Plainfield, Indiana.
- He then gave a presentation on bee biology with an amazing depth of facts, figures and stunning bee information.
It was moved by Ed Rice that we adjourn and seconded by David.
